Dirty teeth
will cause bad breath, eventual loss of teeth due to
infection, and may even lead to generalised infections
in your pet due to bacteria entering the blood stream.
Heart disease and kidney disease can be a
result of “dirty” teeth.
Anaesthesia is required to do a thorough job since your
dog or cat will not “open wide” or sit still! The part of the
tooth under the gum line must be cleaned, as well as the
exposed portion. Necessary extractions are performed
when the tooth roots have been destroyed by infection.
At "The Vet Centre", we have an ultrasonic scaler &
polisher to clean the teeth and “smooth down” the
surfaces, making them more resistant to additional
plaque formation. We also have a dental x-ray machine to
allow us to determine the optimal treatment for you pets
dental problem.
In 1997 we purchased a top of the range IM3 dental station which allows us to perform difficult extractions, root canal procedures, fillings, crowns etc. Consultant Veterinary dentist, Dr. Rod Salter attends our practice fortnightly to perform advanced procedures.
