We are also
willing to perform the tests at the owner's request for
younger animals undergoing anaesthesia. Intravenous
fluids should be used for all animals, but definitely for older pets or pets with known or suspected
kidney problems.
For difficult surgical problems we
can arrange for a visiting specialist surgeon to come to our
practice or we can refer you to a specialist surgical
facility (eg hip replacements, arthroscopys).
We use isoflurane as our gaseous anaesthetic, as this is
considered the "gold standard" in anaesthetic gases. All
animals are monitored by our experienced staff during
and after surgery until fully awake and stable. Pain
relieving medication is given to all surgical patients,
including routine desexings.
We
are a well equipped surgical facility. During 2007 we
acquired an operating microscope for microsurgery and
eye surgery. In addition we use a ‘Bair Hugger’ to
keep animals warm after lengthy surgeries.
